Attendance Reporting - English

This is the procedure to follow when notifying the school of your student’s absence or late arrival. For safety reasons, it is important for the school to be notified when your student will be arriving late to school or will be absent from school. Please call our 24-hour attendance message line to notify us of this information.

 

To call the attendance message line:

1. Call Park Orchard Elementary at 766-2699; enter extension #1991 for Attendance
2. Give your student’s name, the reason for absence or late arrival and the name of the student’s teacher.
3. Please call as soon as you know that your student will be absent from/late to school. 

 

To email:

1. Send a message to Park Orchard's attendance e-mail address at [email protected] before 9:00 am.

 

Important Reminders:

1. Students who arrive late to school must be accompanied to the office and signed in by an adult. If your student is NOT signed in their absence will remain UNEXCUSED until the office is notified with a reason for their tardiness. They will be given a tardy slip to admit them to class. 
2. The office requests that a note be provided anytime your student is late to school, leaves school early, or is absent due to an appointment
3. Absences need to be reported to the school office within 48 hours of the absence or it will be recorded as UNEXCUSED.
4. If a student is absent five (5) consecutive days for an illness a note from the doctor needs to be provided to the office in order for the absences to be excused.
5. Any student with five (5) excused absences in a month will be required to have a parent meeting with the Principal. Upon meeting with the Principal it may be determined that an Attendance Contract will be put in place.
6. Any student with five (5) unexcused absences in a month or ten (10) unexcused absences in a year, will be referred to the Community Truancy Board and/or juvenile prosecuting attorney’s office (Washington State Truancy Law, 1997). A student with twenty (20) consecutive absences, excused or unexcused, will be automatically withdrawn from all classes.

Is my child too ill to go to school today? A parent’s decision to keep a child home from school when he/she is sick can sometimes be a difficult one. No parent wants to interrupt their child’s learning; however, due to the high communicability of some illnesses, there are times when it is appropriate for a child to stay home.

 

If your child has any of the following symptoms, he/she should not come to school:

1. Fever of 100 degrees or higher
2. Vomiting
3. Diarrhea
4. Severe and/or a persistent cough
5. Undiagnosed rashes or rashes that have not been treated
6. A sore throat with fever, vomiting, or stomach pain
7. Infections (strep throat, pink eye, etc.) not yet treated with antibiotics
